Insane Spotlight: The First Edition

Scribbled by Lethal Illness @ 6:36 PM on March 29th, 2010.

If you haven’t noticed the Insane Spotlight section on the right of this post then you’re missing out … and blind. Anyway, so now that most of you see it you’re probably wondering what the hell is it? Well, on the old HidinginSanity we had a section to put our latest and greatest mixtapes. Yeah, sounds kind of selfish, doesn’t it? I thought so, so I figured that I can give back to the readers and feature their work and that’s exactly what I did. I noticed when I was gathering some projects for the opening there was just one thing wrong with my idea because while going around my camp to see if they had any upcoming projects that will drop before the opening they mostly said “no, but I got some hot tracks”. Which got me thinking in addition to the projects on the side I should hit up a semi-frequent post including hot tracks and additional projects.

Sidebar Projects

First up is fellow CP brethren Rey [the coolest loser], you may know him from some of his dope YouTube videos (his YouTube was recently deleted so re-add him). If you don’t know of him be sure to check him out by downloading his newest release “Hi Im Rey EP“. It features 7 unorthodox but dope hip hop tracks which I’m sure will find their way to your mp3 players because they did to mine. I think you could possibly see me and this cat collaborating on future endeavors. For more Rey, be sure to check him out at CrazyPellas.net.

Second tape on the side is an instrumental version of Diamond District‘s “In The Ruff” which features three amazing instrumentals from the album, “Streets Won’t Let Me Chill”, “In the Ruff”, and “Off the Late Night”. If you’ve never heard of Diamond District or their lyrical, old school yet new school sound you have no idea what you’re missing. These instrumentals are masterpieces in their own right. So, if you like these I highly recommend buying the album.

More Spotlight

Recently my boy DJ FunkDoc hit me up because he did a track for the new blend tape “Illegal Remixes Vol. 2” by Step One. The tape features 13 classic throwbacks completely remixed into the modern era of Hip Hop. My favorites off this mixtape are numbers two, three, seven, eight, and nine. Other big named DJ’s featured on this mixtape are Statik Selektah and legendary DJ Ron G. Make sure you don’t sleep on this one. You can download the tape (don’t worry, you won’t be arrested) by checking out the post @ T.R.O.Y.

Producer v12, 1/2 of the production group the Wright Bros, of First in Flight Entertainment hit me up with a YouTube link to a new music video he produced for the song “Smile”. If you like “Smile” you can peep the rest of their work on the mixtape at DatPiff.

Put the Spotlight on You

Do you want to be featured on the next Insane Spotlight post? If so go to my Dropbox on Soundcloud and leave me some tracks to listen to. To send me mixtapes/albums you can send me links to DatPiff or a page where they’re located (myspace, popular forums, your site, etc.) via email. Please, no direct download links I will just delete them. If you want to send me something that isn’t a track or a mixtape like fan art or dope YouTube videos just send them via email. Remember this is open to artists of all kinds, Rappers, Singers, Producers, DJs, Web & Graphic Designers, etc.

Before I sign off I’d like to shout out to former HidinginSanity members The Drumkits (Casanova and B-Lee) and congratulate them on their recent success. They recently landed a track with dance crew Masterz-N-Motion which will be on television’s America’s Got Talent this summer.

Finally, let us end this post with some ride out music from my boy DJ FunkDoc. He just sent me this insane HidinginSanity exclusive so shouts to the funkyone aka DJ FunkDoc Germany’s Finest. Remember you heard it here first, without further ado;
